Getting started in the kitchen can be overwhelming and downright scary. It can be frustrating and confusing trying to find items in the grocery store, figuring out how to time your meals properly, and pleasing everyone who eats the meals you've created. We're here to help! Below are a number of tips for getting started in the kitchen. Don't be surprised if cooking turns from a chore into a hobby!
Do you have any additional tips based on your experiences in the kitchen? Contact us and we will post them on the site!
Step 1. Learn from your partner.
If you are taking over primary cooking duties in your household, your partner can be a great source of knowledge and insight about how to cook. After all, he or she has already spent a significant amount of time getting to know the quirks of your kitchen and already has a good idea of what the members of your household like and don't like to eat. Go on a shopping trip to the grocery store together to get an idea of where to locate hard-to-find items and how to pick out the perfect head of lettuce or the right amount of green beans. A cooking lesson in the kitchen can be a fun and romantic way to spend time together. Working together and learning from your partner will ease the transition into the kitchen, and you'll be surprised at how much you learn about each other!
Step 2. Learn from others.
Visit our Testimonials page to learn about the experiences of others who have taken over kitchen duties in their households. Cookbooks and cooking shows can also be a great resource for starting out in the kitchen. Check out our blog and our forum for some more handy tips!

Step 3. Don't be afraid to experiment.
Accept and embrace the fact that not everything you create in the kitchen will make for a four-star - or even a one-star - dining experience. However, it is only through experimentation and the inevitable "bad ideas" that you will learn what works and what doesn't work in the kitchen. And who knows what masterpieces you'll create in the process!
Step 4. Use protection!
Cooking can get messy, and there's no better way to protect your clothing with a sense of humor than with our The Bitch Stopped Cooking apron, available in our Online store. After all, you don't want the bitch to stop doing laundry, too!
